LOST if the island was purgatory?

If the island was purgatory then presumably the people who died on the island (Boone, Charlie, etc.) were "ready to move on" and were in the church longer than, say, Jack. But what about people like Ana-Lucia. It didn't seem to me that she had really redeemed herself if she was about to kill Ben. Thoughts?
